Yardenit: The baptismal site on the River Jordan

The Jordan River is one of the main fresh water sources for Israel. At the south part of the Sea of Galilee the Jordan River starts to flow, through the Jordan Valley, towards the Dead Sea.

This is where Yardenit is located.

According to the new testament, Jesus came to Jordan River and there he was baptized by John the Baptist. At that moment the gates of heaven were open and the spirit of God descended from heaven like a dove. A voice from heaven said: This is my son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased" (Matt 3: 13-17)
