Ashdod Port:

One of Israel?s three seaports, and the second largest after the The port of Haifa. It is one of the world?s few deep water ports built on the open sea which is about 40 km south of Tel Aviv. The port of Ashdod was opened in the year of 1965.

The reasons for opening the port are:
It doubles Israel?s cargo port capacity, It shortens the distance for transporting cargos between the southern and central parts of Israel.

It is part of the Israeli dispersal policy ? support the development of urban centers in the southern part of Israel. The port of Ashdod serves as a cargo port as well as a passenger port.

The nearest city to the port is Ashdod. It is a new and modern city but there is not much attraction for tourists.

In contrary to The port of Haifa, cruise passengers at this port, will require pre-arrangement of transportation. Due to security formalities, only people with permit are allowed to enter the port. And, there is no public transportation around or even nothing in a walking distance.

From Ashdod port, tourist can enjoy day tours to many attractive tourist spots such as Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Masada, Dead Sea, Tel Aviv and Caesarea.
